Joseph Bertram Scott was born in Swaffham Prior in 1890 (Newmarket Q3-1890 3B:499), baptised in St Mary's Swaffham Prior on 28th October 1890, son of Joseph and Ellen SCOTT (née HASLOP).

1891 census...Aged 7 months, he was at Lower End, Swaffham Prior with his father Joseph SCOTT [37] farm labourer, born Swaffham Prior, his mother Ellen [37] born Trumpington and brother Henry R [3] born Swaffham Prior.

1901 census...Aged 10, he was at High Street, Swaffham Prior with his parents, brother Henry R (farm labourer) and brother Charles H [7] born Swaffham Prior.

1911 census...Aged 20, as Bertram Scott, single, a mason's labourer, he was at "Welcome to Town", Newton Porthcawl, Glamorganshire. His mother and brother Henry were at High Street, Swaffham Prior. His father and brother Charles have not been found.

He enlisted in Porthcawl, Glamorganshire. The title of the regiment up to 1920 was the Welsh Regiment, it then changed to Welch Regiment.
It has so far proved impossible to find what actually caused his death, wounds or illness. He was one of over 600 who died on the very last day of the war.

His medals and memorial scroll were sold at auction in London in 2002 for £170
